1 week till Busfest

We’re all hoping for a glorious weekend next week at Busfest, however if your coming over to see us, we’re indoors in the big WYE building – we’re on the stand side (not the trader camping side), building 1 right in the top corner.

We’ve got our new KI Westy Deluxe on stand (available to buy), a walnut weekend unit, T4/5 cooker unit with smev hob, and a few other bits and pieces. Its cash only on stand and all interiors are available to collect after 2pm on Sunday (unless arranged previously)

We will also have our Toffee brown T5 (t28, 140bhp on site and for sale)

See you there!!!!

T5’s are like buses

After a year  of Bay’s and Splits and T25’s coming through the Kustom Interiors workshop, we’ve had three Volkswagen T5’s coming along in succession.  After completing Frank & Stephanie’s Silver t5 with this interior:

Frank & Stephanies camper conversion including our standard t5 camper interior, with Smev appliances and compressor fridge, colour coded units to match with their upholstery (inca), electric setup and hookup to compliment the raised roof they installed previously.

Our upholsterer got stuck in with the rock and roll bed and buddy seat, and the client whisked the van away for a holiday in France!

Since then we’ve been busy working on these two: a full camper conversion for Sue’s van turning this 61 plate, T26 2litre volkwagen t5 from panel van to campervan – including side and rear windows, barn door windows, full electric and hookup setup, smev appliances and compressor fridge – lined and insulated throughout, finished off in Volkswagen fabric to match the front seats….Photos to be posted shortly

Volkswagen T5 from Leicestershire gets new Kustom t5 Interior

Pete and Ruth visited us at a couple of shows before coming to the workshop in 2011 to discuss their van and interior.  After seeing our new show van they opted for the same external colour and chose similar seat upholstery completed by our local trimmer, but in contrast chose a striking red colour to brighten up their van.

Chocolate wrapper T5 Interior

The inspiration is that of a well known chocolate brand, an interior designed around the Reimo City Van bed with integrated slimline fridge and single burner cooker and sink.

This interior has been in the mind of the client for a long time now, designing all the aspects to be as he wanted.  Even down to the colour specification to match his wheels.  Quite the eye catcher!

Is your rock and roll bed safe to fit seatbelts to?

Something that we get asked about alot is T4 and T5 rock and roll beds and why are crash tested beds so expensive. The answer….testing. Many go through rigourous testing to ensure that in the event of an accident the seat gives you the greatest chance of survival and safety.

Does it mean then that all beds that have seatbelts have been tested? The short answer is No, unfortunately not all go through the same testing, some no testing at all, others can are fully crash tested. In some cases your Insurance company may not insure you if the bed has not been through testing. An MOT does not mean that the bed is safe, only that the seatbelts have been tested.

So, the answer is to check with your supplier, do not assume that if seatbelts are on the picture that it has been tested. Ask questions, what tests have been carried out, do you have paperwork?.

The current MOT only checks that the belts are working, it does not check how the bed has been fitted or if it suitable to transport people.

Therefore even if the van has an MOT and the bed was fitted, it does not mean that your bed is designed for passengers. So always ask the question, before you part with your hard earned money. Also check with your insurance company as some will only cover you for crash tested rock and roll beds, or which have been installed by a professional installer.

The moral of this story is to ask questions of your supplier, there are some great companies out there willing to share their experience with you, to explain how their beds are put together and tested. Make sure you understand what you are buying and how its been tested and ensure any modification including a rock and roll bed has been checked with your insurance company.

Be safe…..
