New e-Golf – I know it’s not a camper

New e-Golf

Electric cars are filling the roads thick and fast… a neighbour round the corner has an electric point at home and we even have an electric point in the local Carpark in #Camelford – so when I noticed this review by Keith Adams for Parkers, and being a Volkswagen, I thought i’d check it out.

Technology is moving at a rapid pace and pretty soon, the commercial market is going to be on the radar of these car designers.

£3 for a 120 mile journey would certainly help in today’s economy and help those businesses affected by the ever increasing cost of diesel prices at the pump.

Not to mention when they start to look at electric for Motorhomes – what a dream it would be to drive up to Scotland on £15 worth of fuel…

I know its not a camper related story, but its a VW after all, so I thought i’d share Keith’s article

The Parkers verdict We like the Volkswagen e-Golf. If you’re after an electric car, but don’t want to delve into an unfamiliar world, this is the best way of doing it. All the best facets of the e-Golf are shared with the standard Golf – its easy-going nature, quality interior, decent dynamics and classless image hold true for a 1.0 SE or GTI.

Update on Timescales

Its been such an exciting and busy year for Kustom Interiors and 2013 doesnt look at different, we’ve got tons of new projects already booked in the diary and we are now taking bookings for complete refits from June/July onwards (but call to get an up to date timescale to avoid disappointment)

If you cant wait till then contact us to see what interiors (if any) are in stock….

Just some of the projects include:  T2 Hightop Bay Viking, VW T2 Devon, VW T5 (t28), Fiat Ducato Technico, 1967 Splitscreen, VW T2 Westfalia and T2 Bay LHD

2013 will also see the sale of our Volkswagen T28 130 59 plate with full camper interior detailed to our usual high spec – watch this space or get in touch – a deposit will secure the van and you can spec up your interior.

T5’s are like buses

After a year  of Bay’s and Splits and T25’s coming through the Kustom Interiors workshop, we’ve had three Volkswagen T5’s coming along in succession.  After completing Frank & Stephanie’s Silver t5 with this interior:

Frank & Stephanies camper conversion including our standard t5 camper interior, with Smev appliances and compressor fridge, colour coded units to match with their upholstery (inca), electric setup and hookup to compliment the raised roof they installed previously.

Our upholsterer got stuck in with the rock and roll bed and buddy seat, and the client whisked the van away for a holiday in France!

Since then we’ve been busy working on these two: a full camper conversion for Sue’s van turning this 61 plate, T26 2litre volkwagen t5 from panel van to campervan – including side and rear windows, barn door windows, full electric and hookup setup, smev appliances and compressor fridge – lined and insulated throughout, finished off in Volkswagen fabric to match the front seats….Photos to be posted shortly

Joe’s twin slider is next

We’re just a week away from unveiling the new KI Westy Deluxe

Over the christmas holidays Daron decide to review the KI Westy Interior that has provided so very popular….dont worry this interior will still be available and is not being super-seeded.

However we thought it time to update the KI Westy Interior 3 piece and will unveil the new deluxe version in March.  We plan to unveil the actual interior at this years Stanford Hall VW show ran by the Leicestershire and Warwickshire VW club – as always we have a stand there in May!

DVLA rules are changing

From last week the DVLA will classify campervans converted from panel vans as “window vans” and not campers.  This is due to the police not being able to identify the difference between the two vehicles its seems due to the difference of speed limits….

Many insurance companies will either insure you as a van or a camper…however done correctly and issued with the correct certification, certain insurance companies will still insure your “camper” even without the changes to your V5, our new VW T5 showvan has undergone this change recently and is now fully insured as a campervan but with the classification of a window van and the cheaper Taxation class….win win!

Unveiled: 23 Window Samba at Stanford Hall VW show

Stanford Hall will be a big show for us this year, with the unveiling of our new VW T5 show van and also the long awaited 1956 23 window Samba, a joint venture with Smiths of Cornwall.

Not only will the Samba be on show, with many of this countries best going out of this country and going to the USA. Even in this economy, VW Splitscreens, in particular the rare classics have been a source of investment for many collectors with many of the best specimens being exchanged for money in excess of $120,000.00

This 23 window samba is no exception, down to minute details this vehicle has been full restored to its original status, returned to its original color, some NOS panels and doors to a replica Oak interior, this example hopes to be one of the best you will see in the UK today.

Buying from Ebay / Online

Hi Guys, just a word of warning, we’ve been contacted recently about one of our customers vans, Ollie – seems its on ebay for sale, however, it was sold back in August….so if you buying via ebay

Please do not part with your cash until you have the van and V5
Do not send your money over and have the van collected, photos are not proof of ownership
Ensure that van hasnt been listed recently before – could be someone relisting it to gain money from you
Visit the van, check out any links – in this case potential buyers called us to check the location and if the van was genuine

Above all, there are genuine people out there, but also a small number of scammers, so please be careful
