Getting away for the weekend

North, Mid and South

Wales is a beautiful part of the world, rain or shine and we just seem to hit it right on the button for sunshine…

Started in the forest of Coed Brenin for a spot of moutainbiking and walking the spaniels.  Heading south to stay just outside of Dolgellau for a 2 mile walk along the Mawddach trail to reach Barnmouth.  The Mawddach trail is a 9.5 mile trail along the old railway line, not disimilar to our local Camel trail.  From here picking up provisions in Machynlleth and heading along one of the most beautiful roads I’ve seen in the UK, hanging a left at the Cross Foxes and through the pass down towards Aberystwyth.  A left turn onto the A44 brings you to Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest and red Kite feedling centre – if you’ve never seen the Red Kites in these numbers, then its a must go – feeding is 3pm in the summer. Carrying on south towards the book capital of the UK, Hay-on-Wye which we learnt of the death of Richard Booth earlier this year, some say was the King of Hay-on-Wye.  From here we head to the canal of Brecon and a quick stock up of essentials before heading in the Brecon Beacons and to Afan Forest for another blast down the mountain.
